Delhi University India

The University of Delhi is a premier University in India. It was established in 1922. The University offers both Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses on a number of disciplines. The number of students studying at the Delhi University is substantial, which is approximately 2,20,000.

The University of Delhi was established in 1922 by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly. The University had a modest beginning with only three colleges affiliated to it; namely St Stephens College, Hindu College and Ramjas College.

In 1922, Delhi University India had faculties only for Arts and Science. The University of Delhi started with a total of 750 students. In October 1933 the University administration relocated to the Viceregal Lodge Estate. This is the central administration area (main campus) till present day. The main departments of the Faculty of Science are present on the grounds of the Viceregal Lodge Estate.


Gradually the University of Delhi flourished; and the authorities of Delhi University initiated the multi-campus concept. This was done to adjust the infrastructure of the university with the number of students, which was increasing every year. The University acquired land near Dhaula Kuan where the Faculty of Arts was built. In 1983 the University offices were shifted here. The University of Delhi has also demarcated the main subjects to different campuses; the East campus houses the University College of Medical Science; and the West campus contains the Engineering and technology section. The University has 15 libraries in addition to the libraries in the colleges affiliated to it.

At present there are 14 faculties, 79 colleges and 86 academic departments of the University and they are spread all over Delhi.

The University has completed the implementation of Fibre-Optic networks in the North and South campuses.

The Vice-President of India is the Chancellor of theUniversity of Delhi.

Delhi Kendriya Vidyalaya


Delhi Kendriya Vidyalaya refer to the chain of Central schools of Delhi. Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in Delhi are located all over the state. These Kendriya Vidyalayas in Delhi are operated by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The Delhi Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is an independent body which was formed by the Education ministry of the Government of India. The formation of this body was recommended in the Second Pay Commission.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in the Delhi region was founded in 1977. Mr. M.L. Khosla was the first assistant commissioner of this region.

American Embassy School

The Air Force School

The Air Force School was established on July 18, 1955 by Late Air Chief Marshal, Subroto Mukherjee who was the Chief of the Air Staff.
